Jet2 flight delayed or cancelled?
If a Jet2 flight got you to your destination 3 hours or more late, UK rules can give you up to £520. Here is what the rules say, where to claim, and what to do if Jet2 says no.
What you are owed
Compensation for a delay is due when you reach your final destination 3 hours or more late.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026For flights of 1,500 km or less, the compensation is £220.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026For flights of more than 1,500 km and up to 3,500 km, the compensation is £350.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026For flights of more than 3,500 km, the compensation is £520.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026For flights of more than 3,500 km that arrive between 3 and 4 hours late, the compensation is £260. From 4 hours late it is £520.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026Flight distances for compensation are measured by the great circle route, the shortest line between the two airports over the earth's surface.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026If you accepted a replacement flight, the airline can halve the compensation when you arrived no more than 2 hours late (flights up to 1,500 km), 3 hours late (1,500 to 3,500 km) or 4 hours late (over 3,500 km).

Which flights are covered
Any flight departing from a UK airport is covered, whichever airline runs it.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026A flight from outside the UK arriving at a UK airport is covered if the airline operating it is a UK or EU airline.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026A flight run by a UK airline to the EU is covered.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026You need a confirmed booking, and you must have checked in on time: at least 45 minutes before departure, or by the time the airline gave you in writing.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026Free tickets and reduced fares that are not available to the public are not covered. Tickets bought with frequent flyer points are covered.

Cancelled flights
If the airline told you about the cancellation 14 days or more before departure, no compensation is due. A refund or a replacement flight still is.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026If you were told 7 to 14 days before departure, no compensation is due only if the replacement flight left no more than 2 hours before the original time and arrived less than 4 hours after it.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026If you were told less than 7 days before departure, no compensation is due only if the replacement flight left no more than 1 hour before the original time and arrived less than 2 hours after it.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026If your flight is cancelled you can choose a full refund paid within 7 days, a replacement flight as soon as possible, or a replacement flight at a later date that suits you.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026If you were refused boarding against your will, for example because the flight was overbooked, you are owed compensation straight away, plus a refund or a replacement flight, and care while you wait. The airline must ask for volunteers first.

When the airline does not have to pay
The airline does not have to pay compensation when the cause was extraordinary and could not have been avoided, for example weather unsafe to fly in, strikes by people who do not work for the airline such as air traffic control or airport staff, security risks, political unrest, or a hidden manufacturing defect.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026Technical problems with the aircraft, including a part failing early, are not extraordinary circumstances, so the airline still has to pay.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026The NATS air traffic control failure on 8 September 2026 counts as extraordinary circumstances, so compensation is not due for disruption it caused. Care and refunds still apply.

Meals, hotels and refunds
The airline must give you meals and refreshments, two phone calls or emails, and a hotel with transport if you have to wait until the next day. This starts once the delay reaches 2 hours (flights up to 1,500 km), 3 hours (1,500 to 3,500 km) or 4 hours (over 3,500 km).
Official source, checked 11 September 2026The airline must still provide care, and refunds, even when the disruption was caused by extraordinary circumstances.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026If your flight is delayed by 5 hours or more, you can decide not to travel and get a refund.

If Jet2 says no
Complain to the airline first. It has 8 weeks to reply.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026If the airline says no, or does not reply in time, you can take your complaint to the airline's dispute resolution scheme for free. You must do this within 12 months of the airline's final response.
Official source, checked 11 September 2026If the airline is not part of a dispute resolution scheme, the Civil Aviation Authority's Passenger Advice and Complaints Team can help, but it cannot make a decision the airline has to follow.
